Bundle product: how it works and what to expect

A bundle product is a real product in your store, and Shopify runs it from there. This guide explains what Lime Bundles manages, what you manage, and what Shopify decides.

Who manages what

Lime Bundles manages:

  • What is in the bundle.
  • The price, but only if you tick Discount this bundle.
  • The “What’s in the bundle” list on the product page.

You manage, on the product page in Shopify:

  • Images, description and SEO.
  • Sales channels.
  • The price, if Discount this bundle is unticked.

Lime Bundles never changes your images, description or SEO.

How pricing works

Discount this bundle unticked. The bundle is created at what its items cost added together, with no crossed-out price. After that the price is yours. Change it on the product in Shopify and Lime Bundles leaves it alone, even when an item’s price changes.

Discount this bundle ticked. You set one rule for the whole bundle: a percentage off, an amount off, or an exact price. Lime Bundles keeps the selling price and the crossed-out “was” price in step with your item prices.

With the discount ticked, change the price by changing the rule in Lime Bundles. A price typed on the product page is put back.

The crossed-out price only shows when there is a real saving.

Statuses for this type

  • Scheduled: the start date hasn’t arrived.
  • Partly out of stock: some versions of the bundle can’t be built from the stock you have. The other versions keep selling.
  • Out of stock: no version can be built. The product page stays up and Shopify shows it as sold out.
  • Sync failed: something the bundle depends on changed in Shopify. See Fix a bundle that says “Sync failed”.

Lime Bundles never hides this type on its own because of stock. Shopify shows it as sold out instead.

What Shopify decides

These rules come from Shopify, for every bundle app.

  • Sales channels. Bundles sell on the Online Store, the Shop app and POS. Google and Meta product feeds don’t accept bundle products.
  • Draft orders and order edits. A bundle product can’t be added to a draft order or an order edit. Add the items inside it as separate lines.
  • Returns. Bundles can’t be exchanged through Shopify’s returns. Refunds work as usual.
  • Discount codes. A code limited to certain products applies only if the bundle product itself is on the code’s list. The items inside it don’t count.
  • Shipping. Rates come from the shipping profiles and weights of the items inside.
  • Prices in other countries. Shoppers abroad see your price converted. To set a fixed price for a market, add the bundle product to that market’s price list in Shopify.
  • Stock. The bundle’s stock is worked out from the items inside it, and can take a few minutes to refresh after a sale.

What is different from the other bundle types

  • No discount on Shopify’s Discounts page. The bundle is sold at its own price.
  • No end date and no countdown timer.
  • No A/B testing.
  • No market settings in Lime Bundles. Use Shopify’s Markets for the product.
  • Analytics shows revenue and purchases only. See Understand your bundle analytics.

Deleting

  • Deleting the bundle in Lime Bundles also deletes its product from your store, including the images and description on the product page. You can’t undo this.
  • Deleting the product in Shopify turns the bundle to Sync failed. Saving the bundle recreates the product, but the old images, description and SEO don’t come back.

Hiding and showing

Set the bundle to Draft in Lime Bundles and the product goes to draft in Shopify. Set the product to draft or active in Shopify and the bundle follows.

Try a word you see in the app, like Sync failed, Customize or markets.
